The British have
always been a nation of animal lovers and one of the fastest growing insurance markets in recent years has been for pet insurance.
Cover can be had for cats from as little as £3.58 per month and for dogs from £6.08p per month.
Findings from Sainsbury's Bank show that 1.6
million pet owners have put their dogs and cats to sleep over the past five years because they couldn't afford the veterinary
fees or continuing medical costs of looking after their animals, while 2.5 million people admitted they had declined recommended
treatment for their pets because they simply couldn't afford it. When you consider that figures from Petplan showed that the average pet insurance claim for dogs was £715
and for cats £510 and figures from Argos show that in the first quarter of 2009 the average cost for treatment if a
pet was injured in a road accident was over £1,000. It is not surprising that many owners are choosing to make
sure that they have insurance cover for their cats and or dogs.
Other advantages that many pet insurance policies offer are Money towards advertising and reward costs should your pet go missing. Holiday cancellation
cover should you have to cancel your holiday due to loss, illness or injury of your pet. For dogs you should also make
sure you have third party liability for injury to another person or damage to their property.
